Hexagram 32: Duration

䷟ 恆 (Héng) · Endurance. Lasting success comes from consistency.

endurance, consistency, commitment, steadiness

Lower trigram: Wind ☴ · Upper trigram: Thunder ☳

The judgment

What lasts is not what stands still, but what keeps moving in a steady, renewing rhythm. Stay true to your direction while letting your methods change with the times. Consistency like this brings success and leaves nothing to regret.

The image

Thunder and wind always travel together, restless yet constant companions. Stand firm in yourself and don't keep changing course.

The six lines

Read only the lines that changed in your casting, counting from the bottom.

• Line 1 (bottom): You want something permanent too quickly and ask too much at once. Lasting things grow slowly; forcing them goes nowhere.
• Line 2: You have more strength than the situation needs, but you keep it in check. Regret disappears.
• Line 3: Your mood shifts with every passing feeling, so others cannot rely on you. Inconsistency like this keeps bringing embarrassment.
• Line 4: You keep hunting in a field where there is no game. Persistence in the wrong place yields nothing; look somewhere else.
• Line 5: Steady loyalty to what is serves well when your role is to support. When you must lead, faithfulness also needs fresh judgment about what has changed.
• Line 6 (top): Restlessness that never settles, always stirring, becomes its own trap. It leads to misfortune.
