Hexagram 59: Dispersion
䷺ 渙 (Huàn) · Dispersion. Dissolve rigidity and ego, then reunite.
dissolving, release, reunion, flow
Lower trigram: Water ☵ · Upper trigram: Wind ☴
The judgment
Like wind breaking up ice on water, this is a time to dissolve what has hardened: grudges, rigid habits, walls between people. When the ego softens, people can come together again around something larger than themselves. A shared purpose, or something you hold sacred, helps the reuniting happen. It is a good time for a bold undertaking.

Wind blowing over Water, scattering what has frozen. Turn toward what you hold sacred and build something in common that brings scattered people back together.
The six lines
Read only the lines that changed in your casting, counting from the bottom.
- Line 1 (bottom): Deal with the misunderstanding early, with strength and speed, before it grows. Quick help now brings good fortune.
- Line 2: As things come apart, hurry to what steadies you. Return to your foundations and regret melts away.
- Line 3: Set your own concerns aside for something larger. Letting go of self-interest leaves nothing to regret.
- Line 4: Step away from your faction or clique for the sake of a wider good. What looks like scattering gathers into something greater, though few see it at first.
- Line 5: One clear, unifying idea breaks the tension the way sweat breaks a fever. Holding to the center now is right.
- Line 6 (top): Remove yourself, and those close to you, from harm's way. Keeping your distance now is the wise choice.
