Hexagram 63: After Completion
䷾ 既濟 (Jì Jì) · After completion. Success achieved; stay vigilant.
completion, vigilance, maintenance, balance
Lower trigram: Fire ☲ · Upper trigram: Water ☵
The judgment
Things are in order, with everything in its place, like a crossing just completed. That balance is fragile. Things start out well, but disorder creeps in when people relax. Tend to small details now and stay watchful, so the success you have lasts.
The image
Water above Fire: the kettle boils, but it could spill over and put out the flame. Think ahead about what might go wrong and prepare for it before it happens.
The six lines
Read only the lines that changed in your casting, counting from the bottom.
- Line 1 (bottom): You brake as the wheels start to roll and only your tail gets wet. Holding back at the start of a surge keeps you safe.
- Line 2: You lose something that marks your place, and you feel unseen. Don't run after it; what is truly yours tends to come back in its own time.
- Line 3: A long, hard campaign succeeds only after years of effort. Choose carefully whom you rely on along the way.
- Line 4: Even good cloth begins to fray. Watch for small leaks and flaws, and stay careful all day long.
- Line 5: A lavish offering means less than a small, sincere one. What counts is the heart behind the act.
- Line 6 (top): Having crossed, you look back and get your head wet. Don't linger in the danger you have just passed through; keep moving forward.
