Berkano Rune Meaning
ᛒ · sound "b" · Tyr's ætt · name means birch
growth, new beginnings, nurture, renewal
Upright meaning
Berkano is the birch in spring: new growth, care, and the patient tending that helps something young take root. It may point to a project, a relationship or a part of yourself that is just beginning. Give it shelter and time.
Reversed (merkstave)
Reversed, Berkano can mirror growth that has stalled, or care that has been flowing in only one direction. Ask what needs nurturing now, and remember that includes you.
Lore
The name means birch, one of the first trees to return to open ground. All three rune poems cover it: the Norse verses picture a leafy young twig, while the Anglo-Saxon poem describes a tree that sends up new shoots without seed and stands beautiful in its branches.
