Fehu Rune Meaning
ᚠ · sound "f" · Freyr's ætt · name means cattle, wealth
resources, earned value, generosity, flow
Upright meaning
Fehu points to what you have to work with: time, skill, goodwill, the things you have earned. It asks whether those resources are moving and doing some good, or sitting still and turning into worry. Sharing well is part of having.
Reversed (merkstave)
Reversed, Fehu can mirror a sense of something slipping away, or of holding on so tightly that nothing can move. Take it as a prompt to look calmly at what you value and where your energy is leaking.
Lore
The name comes from the Proto-Germanic word for cattle, which for early farming peoples was wealth that could walk. All three rune poems, the Old Norwegian, the Old Icelandic and the Anglo-Saxon, begin with it: the Norse verses warn that riches stir up quarrels among kin, while the Anglo-Saxon poem calls wealth a comfort to everyone, though anyone who hopes for honor before the Lord should share it freely.
