Four of Swords Tarot Card Meaning
Minor Arcana, suit of Swords
rest, recovery, retreat, quiet
The card
A knight lies carved in stone on a tomb, hands joined in prayer, with three swords hanging point-down on the wall above him and a fourth lying lengthwise along the side of the tomb, while a stained-glass window glows nearby. This is not an ending but deep rest, the stillness that lets a tired mind mend. The card suggests stepping back and giving yourself a real pause before the next round.
Upright meaning
Rest, recovery and quiet retreat; lay down your sword and gather your strength.
Reversed meaning
Restlessness or burnout from refusing to rest, or a slow return to activity.
